My 1,000th blog post

A brief history of the Random Musings blog

• It's been an interesting journey. My 1st post was on September 11, 2012 and the 2nd was almost 2 years later! Although I didn't really start blogging for real until September 1, 2014. At that time, I was blogging Monday through Friday. 

• The interesting days made their first appearance on September 3rd. 

• The first weekend post came on October 25th, so I was posting 7 days a week, with just interesting days on the weekends just like now. 

• I started using IFTTT to automatically post to Facebook on February 6, 2015 which is when I started giving titles to my blog posts. 

• I started thinking about doing a podcast featuring a wrap-up of the week's posts, so The Friday Fishwrap was born on August 14, 2015 and instead of a podcast I started doing Periscope broadcasts, although I haven't done any in quite a while. I think I've done one Facebook Live but I may start doing those again.

• I started doing the Throwback Thursdays (#TBT) almost exactly one year ago, on June 16

• I'm not quite sure when I moved the wrap-up of the interesting days from Friday to Saturday, but I think it was earlier this year, and that's where we stand at the moment

But Random Musings wasn't my first blog! My first one came in the winter of 1998 when I was at my Air Force technical school at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS.  I had just enlisted in the CA Air National Guard after being out of the Air Force for 20 years. That blog was called Gambler's Paradise and the logo was a pair o' dice (get it? I thought it was clever!) and it was about the casinos in the Biloxi/Gulfport area and there were quite a few. The blog was going to be a review of the various casinos. I only did a few and they're long gone...nowhere to be found on the Internet.

One of my favorite casinos, and I think it was the one that I did my first blog post on was the Treasure Bay Casino. It was pretty cool because it had a pirate ship outside the casino, which was one of the first things I noticed on the bus ride from the airport since it was all lit up on that foggy night.

All of the casinos were on barges, so they could be towed out of harm's way in case of a hurricane but it seems that it didn't work out that way when Katrina struck. The pirate ship was destroyed and the casino was rebuilt on the other side of the freeway. It looks all of the casinos were pretty much destroyed but they were allowed to rebuild on solid land.

My second blog was called "Rick's Cafe Americain" after the movie "Casablanca". It was similar to "Random Musings" in that I posted about whatever popped into my head. That blog is nowhere to be found either!

My third blog was on Empower Network and it actually still exists! In fact, many of them have found their way into "Random Musings". I can't seem to access it at the moment.

And finally, "Random Musings" which is 1,000 blog posts old today!
