A FB post re-tasking.

Go ahead. Look in the mirror. What do you see? No, look beyond the wonderful person we both know you are. Look deeper. What do you see? A network marketer!

Even if you've sworn that you'd never be a network marketer, you do it all the time.

Whenever you tell (market) your friends and family (your network) about a product or service, you're network marketing.

Imagine that you just saw the greatest movie ever created. What do you do? You tell everyone you know about it. So, what happens? A few people find your taste in movies questionable and they don't see it. A few others don't have the money to see it. A few are boycotting the movie studio and refuse to see anything they put out. But a few go to see it because you recommended it. The studio makes more money because of you. But do they even thank you?

Now suppose this was a progressive studio and they pay you a small portion of each of the tickets that your friends purchase. Nice! But it gets better! They pay you for every ticket they purchase for the rest of their lives! That's known as residual income. But wait! There's more! Some of your friends like the movie so much that they tell their friends who tell their friends…and you get paid for all of those tickets purchased for the rest of their lives. That's leveraged residual income.

When your friends tell you about some great product or service that they love and want you to watch a video about it, don't go running away. Even if you're not interested in a business opportunity, it just may end up being a product that you'll love, too. So go ahead and check out the video. And then look in the mirror again. Yes, you're a network marketer.

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

My upline, DeMarr Zimmerman, posted this on Facebook. He's not sure exactly where it came from but I liked it and thought I'd share it with you.

9 Reasons to Start a Home-Based
Business

1. Take a Well-Deserved Vacation

2. Spend More Time with Your Family

3. Give Your Children a Stay-at-Home Parent

4. Eliminate Debts

5. Pay Your Mortgage Off Quicker

6. Earn More Money to Help Buy Your Dream Car or
Home

7. Enjoy Valuable Tax Savings

8. Save for a Rainy Day

9. Add to Your Retirement Savings

The "Lifestyle" approach to marketing is an innovative yet natural
way to gain financial independence. It's innovative because it defies
the traditional business model of relying on advertising to generate
slow-building product sales. It's natural because instead of highpressure

sales tactics and expensive advertising, it relies on the concept of helping yourself through helping others.

That's why when I started to list nine great reasons why this is the
perfect day to start owning your life, I had a really hard time. It wasn't
because it was hard to come up with nine reasons, it was hard to limit
the list to just nine!

To help me narrow the many reasons down to just a few, I went to
some of our most successful partners. They told me that for them, the
benefit isn't just making more money; it is enjoying a whole new
lifestyle. These are the nine biggest benefits of that lifestyle.

Quality of Life

Take a Well-Deserved Vacation

When was the last time you took a vacation? How long was it? For
most people vacations are controlled by their employer. They are told
when they can go and how long they can take. Wouldn't you like to
take as long a vacation as you want, when you are ready to go? When
you own the business, you set the vacation schedule!

Spend More Time with Your Family

If you spend 40, 60 or even 80 hours a week at work, how much time
are you spending with your family? How many dance recitals or
parent-teacher meetings have you missed? These years of family time
that you are losing can never be regained. Make the choice to own
your life today, and start giving your family the love and attention that
both you and they deserve.

Give Your Children a Stay-at-Home Parent

Life is full of tough choices. You hated the idea of taking your kids to
day care instead of being home with them every day. You had to,
though, just to make ends meet. Very few jobs today pay enough to
let one parent stay home. When you live and work at home, you can
earn as much as you need and still be there for your children. Your
spouse may be able to stay home, too. You won't miss any more of
the crucial bonding years with your children. You decide how much
time you need to spend working, and take the family time that you
need.

Financial Freedom

Eliminate Debts

Part of owning your life is owning your financial situation. If you have
debts, you can spend the extra money you can make paying some of
them off. Get rid of those high-interest credit card payments. Pay off
your car. Remove some of the stress in your life by eliminating some
of your debts.

Pay Your Mortgage Off Quicker

A home mortgage is one of the biggest expenses most people have.
Wouldn't you like to get yours paid off sooner? Just one extra principal
payment each year can take years off of your loan. Imagine what two
or three could do! Imagine making an extra payment each month!
Paying your mortgage off sooner can mean having to work less in your
later years.

Earn More Money to Help Buy Your Dream Car
or Home

Owning your business can mean earning more money for the things
you want. Because your labor goes to make money for you instead of
a corporation, you can earn more money for the hours that you work.
You may want to put some of this money toward the car or home you
have always wanted. That is what financial freedom is all about.

Increase Your Savings

Enjoy Valuable Tax Savings

Saving money is the same as making more money. When you own a
home-based business, part of your home becomes business space. The
rooms you work in, the computer and printer you use, and your
Internet service and cell phone all may become business expenses.
This means they may be deductible on your taxes, saving you money!
That is more money you can put to work paying off debts or taking a
hard-earned vacation.

Save for a Rainy Day

When you work for someone else, it is hard to have extra money at
the end of the month for savings. If your car broke down, could you
pay to get it fixed? If your child needed braces, could you afford them?
The extra money you can earn with your own business can make this
possible. You can put some of that money in the bank for a rainy day.
That way, when the bumps in the road of life come along, you will be
ready for them.

Add to Your Retirement Savings

Do have enough money in the bank to retire when you are ready?
Does your present job let you save enough money every month so
that you can ever stop working? Jobs today rarely come with
company-paid retirement plans. They make you put your money into
stocks or IRAs if you want to be able to retire. That can be hard to do
when you barely make enough to pay the bills. Your home-based
business can give you the extra money to start building up your
retirement savings now.

A very late post today!

Security vs freedom

At the SendOutCards Executive Retreat this past weekend there was a field trip to Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary. Alcatraz is now a federal park with daily tours.

From what I've heard a lot of the talk afterward was about freedom. I guess that being in a place where most of your freedoms were taken away gives people the chance to think about the freedoms we take for granted.

A lot of people think that the more security you have in your life, the more freedom you'll be able to enjoy, whether it's job security, Social Security or personal security. But the opposite is true, the more security you have, the less freedom you'll have. In fact, who has the least freedom? The person in a maximum security cell.

New website

I have a new SendOutCards website: rickscardpage.sendcere.net Please take a moment and check it out for me and let me know what you think. And please add your email address in the box. Thanks!

Time for a brief wrap-up on vision, mission, goals, objectives, activities/tasks and strategies. Each link below connects to the blog post on that subject.

Vision - A personal vision statement is a short statement, maybe a paragraph or less, that describes where you want to be at some future point.

Mission - A personal mission statement can be thought of as being a personal constitution and while a personal vision statement looks at the future, a personal mission statement looks at the present.

To be successful, you need goats

Goals are end results that you want to achieve.

Objectives are sub goals with measurable outcomes that are expected to get you to your goals.

Activities/Tasks are actions you take to support your goals and objectives.

Strategies are your methods for achieving your goals and objectives.

I just saw the stats for my blog and there were 1,111 page views! I'm not sure who the other person was who has viewed this 11 times but I appreciate it.

SendOutCards Executive Retreat

Many of my friends are at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco for the SendOutCards Executive Retreat this weekend. I wish I was there, too, but it's an invitation only event and I wasn't invited.

There were a couple of ways to be invited. One, to be an Executive Distributor (or higher) in SendOutCards but I'm a few levels below this at the moment. The other was to triple dip in the Manager Bonus Pool this past summer…again I didn't make it.

Last year's event was in Puerto Rico. I'm not sure of previous events because I wasn't part of SOC yet. But this is the last time I'm going to miss this event. I don't know where it will be held next year yet, but I will be there! But to get there I need the help of every person reading this blog post. It's really easy. All I need is about 15 minutes of your time! Go to www.sendoutcards.com/144087 and watch the video there. Afterwards, click on the Learn More button and watch the 2nd video. Then click on 1 if you'd like to start your own business and join me at a future Executive Retreat or click on 2 if you'd like to improve your personal or professional relationships by using SendOutCards (I know it's improved mine immensely!). Then let me know that you've watched the videos by commenting below or PM me on FB at www.facebook.com/rick.tompkins.1232. Also, please let me know if you can think of anyone who could use a little extra money and/or could use a cool way of staying in touch with friends, family, clients or prospects.

If I can get 1,000 people to view the 3 videos, I should be able to qualify next year. TIA (that's thanks in advance in case you didn't know)!

I love re-tasking old Facebook posts!

Plan A, better known as the 40-40-40 Plan. You work 40 hours a week for 40 years to retire on 40% of the income you couldn't live on. Versus Plan B, the 1-3-5-7 Plan. It takes 1 year to become functional in your network marketing business, 3 years of working 10-15 hours per week to make a full-time income, 5 years to become a high end money earner and 7 years to be financially free, making a high 6 figure to 7 figure annual income. It's your choice.

OK…this is the next to last part in our series, although not necessarily the step that you'll take last in accomplishing your goals.

Strategies are your methods for achieving your goals and objectives. More at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strategies

From the Wikipedia link above "Strategy is important because the resources available to achieve these goals are usually limited. Strategy generally involves setting goals, determining actions to achieve the goals, and mobilizing resources to execute the actions. A strategy describes how the ends (goals) will be achieved by the means (resources). "

We're going to veer away from our most recent example and go back to an earlier one…losing weight.

"An example goal may be to lose weight before your high school reunion. The associated objective would be to lose 25 pounds in the next 5 months. The activities or tasks would depend on the strategy you use to reach your objectives. In the weight loss example there are 2 main strategies…diet and exercise and you can choose to implement one or both. So, if you want to exercise as your strategy, your activities may be go to the gym 4-5 days a week."

Friday will be a quick review of what we've covered over this series of blog posts.

OK, it's the start of a new week, so it's time to get serious. Today we're going to continue with our series about vision, mission and goats (yes, I said goats. Look back to see what I mean by goats) by discussing activities/tasks.

Activities/Tasks are actions you take to support your goals and objectives.

Going back to our objective for last week, we had "So, he will go to Spain, Portugal and Italy for 3 weeks beginning on June 1st. He will purchase the tickets by January 1st. This is a family trip that he and his wife had been looking forward to for years. They will be bringing their kids."

You can have multiple objectives or sub-goals. When all objectives are completed, you should be able to obtain your goal. Other objectives may be to get the family passports or any required immunizations. The activities or tasks may be to find out how to get a passport, where to get it, what forms of ID are required, what shots are required, where they can get them cheaply, etc. These are items that you can put in your schedule, such as Monday: check where to get passport, Tuesday: where to get passport pictures, Wednesday: contact consulates in Spain, Portugal and Italy to see if immunizations are required. As you check these items off your to-do list, you are that much closer to accomplishing your goal.

We've talked about vision, mission and goals

We've talked about vision, mission and goals. Today w're going to talk about objectives, and more specifically about SMART objectives.

An objective is a more detailed form of a goal.

We had an example of a goal on Monday of "A trip to Europe in June of next year is his goal".

So, how can we make this more specific? How about he will go to Spain, Portugal and Italy for 3 weeks beginning on June 1st.

How can it be measured? How about he needs to save $5,000 by the beginning of May? Or he must purchase his tickets 6 months before the trip?

Is it achievable? Is it possible for him to save the money needed? It may not be achievable if he's terrified of flying

How about relevant? Or sometimes also shown as realistic. Is this something that he really wants to do? Or is it part of a larger goal? This could be a business trip or a major family vacation.

Time bound. We have a couple of examples of that above.

So, he will go to Spain, Portugal and Italy for 3 weeks beginning on June 1st. He will purchase the tickets by January 1st. This is a family trip that he and his wife had been looking forward to for years. They will be bringing their kids.

Two FB posts re-tasked:

What does the term "quality of life paycheck" mean to you? And does your paycheck provide it?

AND

I think the concept of a "quality of life" paycheck is especially important to people my age…people who have retired or are about to retire.
What kind of quality of life can you expect from Social Security and Medicare? Living in an unheated apartment, eating cat food and not being able to afford your medicine? Or what about your 201k? That's what you have left after half of your 401k disappeared. The problem with all of these plans is that the government decides how much you get and when. What if you're really lucky and you get a pension? You've got a little more money, but now your former employer decides how much you get and when.
Do you think you'll have the quality of life you've always planned for yourself if somebody else decides how much you get paid and when you get it. Do you think that your quality of life is uppermost in their minds as they mail your check to you?
Ask me about another quality of life paycheck option.

Monday, October 6, 2014

So far we've talked about vision and mission. Mission is basically where you are now and vision is where you want to be. And the way you get there is by creating goals.

I really like this quote! I believe it's from Napoleon Hill.

We all have dreams and oftentimes they stay that way. If you want to make your dreams a reality, you need to decide when you want it to come true and then work on making it happen.

Let's break this down a little and see how we can apply it.

goal

noun

1.
the result or achievement toward which effort is directed; aim; end.

dream
noun
6.    an aspiration; goal; aim:
A trip to Europe is his dream.

deadline

noun

1.
the time by which something must be finished or submitted; the latest time for finishing something:
a five o'clock deadline.

(again after 3 definitions it doesn't seem to want to go back to the left margin)

According to the definitions a goal and a dream are basically the same, except goal does mention effort, which dream doesn't.

So, if we take the dream above "A trip to Europe is his dream" and add a deadline to it, it becomes a goal. The deadline above "a five o'clock deadline" is probably not practical in this case, so maybe "A trip to Europe in June of next year is his goal".

So, now you have a goal. The next step is to figure out what you have to do and when you have to do it to accomplish your goal. Those are your objectives.
