How To Sleep Better On New Year’s Eve, Even If You Stay Out Late

This is a very timely topic seeing as how today is New Year's Eve!

Today's blog post is based on a blog post by Dr. Michael Breus:
Let’s face it New Years is a fun holiday where we do a lot of drinking, eating, dancing, watching TV late, and of course celebrating! The big question is: How can we have all the fun and avoid the New Year’s Day exhaustion and start the year off feeling healthy? Here are some things to try this year.
He has a few suggestions of things to do before New Year's Eve, but that won't help us this year...maybe next year.

These are the tips he offers that we can put into use today:
  • Limit Consumption With This One Little Trick: A Glass for a Glass.
  • Do Not Go Straight To Bed When You Get Home After A Night Of Partying
  • Watch what you eat.
  • Find A Ride Ahead Of Time.
And a few thoughts for New Year’s Day
  • Don’t Sleep In More Than 30 Minutes Past Your Regular Wake Up Time.
  • Wake Up And Hydrate.
  • Get Outside And Get Some Sunshine!
  • Sweat It Out.
There you go! Be sure to read the blog post to find out more about each of those steps.

The 12 days of follow up - Day 2 #TBT

Today's blog post was originally published two years ago:

Even though this is called the 12 days of follow up, you probably shouldn't follow up 12 days in a row...that would probably border on stalking. So, how often and for how long should you follow up?

Here's an excerpt from a post (based on a series of FB posts by my friend Mary Swarts) that I did in August that talks about how often to follow up:
Following up once a week is acceptable, professional, and totally okay. You can let your prospect know that you'll be following up in 1 week, ask him/her what day(s) & time(s) they have open on their calendar. Then be a person of your word and follow up when you say you will. Cultivate the reputation you do what you say you're going to do, and people will willingly share referrals.
Personally, I find once a week or even once a month to be too much, although as I mentioned in yesterday's blog post, Joe Girard followed up with all 13,000 of his previous customers every month! However, I don't think you should ever go more than 3 months without some contact since it's been said that you lose 10% of your influence with your contacts for each month that they don't hear from you.

I would follow the steps in that post...in fact I would probably follow it exactly...I said then that I would do them in a different order, and then follow up every 2 or 3 months after that. Here's another excerpt:
  1. Same day: Email saying it was nice to meet them at _____event
  2. Connect on FB & LinkedIn
  3. Send a Nice to Meet You card
  4. Call in 5 days (SendOutCards will take 3-5 business days to arrive)
  5. Coffee Meeting / Take a picture with prospect
  6. Send Card #2 highlighting their business with their picture on it
  7. Follow Up Call, or Text, or FB, Card - once a week
The guideline above will help you get into the magic number range of 5-12 touches to move your prospect into action. As you start to get into the rhythm of doing this method, you can adjust it to your style/preference.
I'd make a couple of changes to this list. I'd take a picture with them and text the picture to them right away, saying it was nice to meet them. This way they can remember you when you continue your follow up. Then I'd follow the 24/7/30 plan...email within 24 hours, follow them on social media within 7 days and schedule a coffee meeting within 30 days (you setup the schedule when you call in step 4). #6 doesn't need to have their photo on it, since you include that on the first card.

And as Tom Hopkins (also mentioned in yesterday's post) has said:
My philosophy on follow up is that you:
Follow up, follow up, follow up until they buy … or die.
And if you haven't downloaded the SendOutCards app, go ahead and do so. It's free and if you're not already a SendOutCards customer or distributor the first card that you send is on me!

Culture You Can Heft

Today's blog post is based on an article from The Art of Manliness:
But, for the past couple of years, I’ve found myself growing increasingly dissatisfied with the digital way of consuming all this culture; the sheen of its apparently golden hue — and its accompanying thrill — began to wear off. I felt stuffed with all these options. Saturated. And yet strangely hungry at the same time.
I’ve consequently found myself wandering back into the world of “analog” culture. Instead of reading books on a Kindle, I prefer to read physical books. Instead of streaming music, I’ve been listening to old scratchy vinyl records. Instead of reading news online, I subscribe to the physical version of our local newspaper. I did this, not out of some hipster desire to be idiosyncratic, but simply because it felt right, seemed to scratch a certain itch that hadn’t gone away.
I’m not the only one who’s been making this pivot — a 360, I guess. Studies have shown that while ebooks were outselling physical books a few years ago, that trend has reversed; sales of paperback and hardback books have risen while the sales of ebooks have declined. The number of independent bookstores is growing and their sales are on the rise. Vinyl records have made a roaring comeback over the past decade.
I've written on this subject before. This subject is very appropriate since today is Thank You Note Day...not Thank You Email Day, or Thank You Post Day or Thank You E-card Day. There is something special about getting a tangible letter or card in the mail.
Why after obtaining infinite access to any and all culture via the cloud, are many people coming back to earth and picking up culture they can heft?
Here are a few ideas:
  • Culture You Can Heft Is Just More Enjoyable to Consume
  • Culture You Can Heft Exhibits What Makes You, You
  • Culture You Can Heft Increases the Amount of Serendipity in Your Life
    • This is one of the things I miss the most about the old library card catalogs
  • You Actually Own Culture You Can Heft
  • Culture You Can Heft Channels Your Focus Into One Activity
  • Culture Can You Can Heft Will Always Be Accessible, A Decade, or a Century, From Now
  • Culture You Can Heft Has Defined Perimeters — An Actual End Point
  • Digital Culture and Culture You Can Heft Working Together
How do you prefer to partake of culture? Digital or analog?

Some will...Some won't...So what? Next! #TBT

Today's blog post was originally published last year:

If you've been in network marketing for awhile, you've probably heard this:

And it's absolutely true. About 2% will and 98% won't. The question should be "So what can I do about it?" Maybe you can guess what I'm going to say...follow-up! We already know that only about 2% of people make a buying decision on the first exposure. The point is that you make your presentation and then move on, but don't forget to circle back.

This also ties in with this golden oldie:
Although, they left the most important words out: You can't say the right thing to the wrong person AT ANY TIME. You can't say the wrong thing to the right person AT THE RIGHT TIME.

You'll never know when the right time might be, so you just keep following up, until they buy or die! (Or tell you to leave them alone!)

Since it usually takes 90% of people four or more exposures before they make a buying decision, you want to make sure you're the one making that exposure. I'm sure you've heard "I've heard of..." whatever your company is. That's great! Someone has gotten at least the first exposure out of the way for you!

Just remember that:
Most will, at the right time; a few won't, at any time; so what? If not this time, maybe next time!
Don't forget, we offer one of the best follow-up tools available!
