The 10 most in-demand skills of 2019, according to LinkedIn

Today's blog post is based on an article from CNBC.

According to the article:
The United States is currently experiencing one of the tightest labor markets in history and many say that the country is currently facing a skills gap. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. currently has over 7 million unfilled jobs.
This tight labor market has led many companies to become more open-minded when considering candidates. Companies including Google, Apple, IBM and Bank of America no longer require applicants to have a college degree.
Instead of emphasizing the need for specific titles and experience, organizations are shifting towards a focus on the skills that a potential employee may bring. At tech companies like Facebook, this is especially true.
Employers are looking more for skills than for experience. So, what skills are in demand and where can you get them?
LinkedIn recently analyzed hundreds of thousands of job postings in order to determine which skills companies need most in 2019. They found that employers are looking for workers with both soft skills and hard technical skills and matched these skills with LinkedIn Learning courses that are free for the month of January.
Here are the 5 most in-demand soft skills in 2019:
5. Time Management
4. Adaptability
3. Collaboration
2. Persuasion
1. Creativity
And here are the 5 most in-demand hard skills in 2019:
5. UX Design
4. People Management
3. Analytical Reasoning
2. Artificial Intelligence
1. Cloud Computing
Check out the article on CNBC for a list of the free classes available this month for each skill.

Get More Done With the Rule of 3 #TBT

Today's blog post was originally published last year:

Today's blog post is based on an article from The Art of Manliness:

 According to the article:
While it’s a concept that’s been discussed in various blogs and books, author Chris Bailey defines it thusly: “At the beginning of each day, before you start working, decide what three things you want to accomplish by the end of the day. Do the same at the start of every week.”
It’s a simple, yet game-changing concept. While it’s actually fairly easy to execute, below I’ll take you through the reason it’s so important to do, as well as some quick tips for utilizing the Rule of 3 to its maximum potential.
What are the benefits of the Rule of 3?
Rather than having a running list of 10, 20, or even more items on your daily to-do list, or worse, going into a work day blind and without any direction, there come a great many benefits from simply writing down the 3 most important things you want to get done, and giving those things your laser focus and highest energy.
  • You work deliberately rather than reactively.
  • Keeps you on track when you get off track.
  • It’s simple enough that you’ll actually do it.
  • Unimportant tasks get sloughed off.
  • Keeps your supervisors/teams from getting overwhelmed.
What are some ways to get the most out of the Rule of 3?
As noted at the top, implementing the Rule of 3 is very simple in concept: write out the 3 most important things you need to get done that day. But, there are a few tips to pass on in order to get the most out of it.
  • Use the Rule of 3 not only for your day, but also your week, month, and year.
  • Use a paper notebook.
  • Plan the day/night before.
  • Reflect.
  • Be flexible.
  • React when needed.
  • Have a personal Rule of 3.
Since it's the start of a new year, what are the 3 most important things that you want to accomplish before next New Year's Eve? Make a list of 3 for your career/business and another list for your personal life.

Business Acceleration Workshop

Starting this Saturday, January 5th, and running every Saturday for the rest of the year, I'll be hosting Business Acceleration workshops.

These workshops will show you how to use relationship marketing to grow your business, no matter what that business might be.

The first four Saturdays of every month will be dedicated to the lessons contained in the Mastering Relationship Marketing training. On the fifth Saturday (4 times per year), we'll instead have a Super Saturday where we'll feature team members, have prize drawings and a 50-50 raffle.

To get tickets for the drawing you need to attend one or more workshops...you get 3 tickets for each meeting that you attend in person, 2 for attending the Facebook Live in real-time and 1 ticket for each recording that you watch. Plus you get 1 additional ticket for every member that you add to the Relationship Marketing Tips and Techniques Facebook group.

Here's the link to the Facebook event...if you're not a member of the group, let me know and I'll add you.

The events start at 10:00 AM every Saturday, although coffee and donuts will be served starting at 9:30. The events end at noon.
