All the news that's fit to wrap around a dead fish
The week in review
Monday - "Never Let the Sun Catch You Sleeping: Why and How to Become an Early Riser" An article from The Art of Manliness. "If you read the biographies of history’s greatest men, you’ll find that
most were early risers. They used each morning to write, read, ponder,
and plan for their day."
Tuesday - "When will you live your dream life?" A post based on a video by Darla DiGrandi. "Most people, me included, work when they're awake, so the only time they
can live the life of their dreams is when they're actually dreaming."
Wednesday - "This Saturday is the SOC Super Saturday" This will be the second monthly Modesto Super Saturday. "If you don't know much about SendOutCards, come at 10:00 for an overview
and stay for the training if you want. If you're already a customer or
distributor, come by at 11:00 for some training."
Thursday - "Begin with the End in Mind #TBT" From "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People". "You don't
have to apply these principles only to the end of your life. You can
also apply them to any project or goal that you have. First, visualize
the outcome that you want and then take the steps needed to accomplish
that goal or project."
And since today is Plan Your Epitaph Day, this seems like a good time to talk about this. I did touch on this briefly in yesterday's post but I'm expanding on the idea today.
Since
the library decided that they would be closed on Easter and I don't
know where my copy of the book is right now, I'm going from memory and
what I can find on the Internet.
There is a
visualization exercise in the book where you are to imagine you're
viewing your own funeral and several people get up to speak about you,
such as friends and family members, co-workers, etc. What would these
people say about you if you were to die right now? Would it really be
what you want to be remembered for? Or are there things you want to
change in your life? If there are changes that you want to make, today
is a good day to begin making these changes.
You don't
have to apply these principles only to the end of your life. You can
also apply them to any project or goal that you have. First, visualize
the outcome that you want and then take the steps needed to accomplish
that goal or project. For more on this, see my series of articles on
goal setting here.
This is why I got started in network marketing. When I was re-reading the book about 6 years ago I thought about who would be at my funeral. I figured my wife (at the time), the kids, my sister and probably my nieces would be there. That's when I decided it would be good to meet more people. Also, at about that same time I read "We Want You to be Rich" by Robert Kiyosaki and some guy with funny hair named Donald Trump. They suggested network marketing as a way to become rich. Right after this is when I got started with Beachbody, followed soon by SendOutCards.
Interesting days
Today - Plan Your Epitaph Day, Army Day, New Beer's Eve, Tell A Lie Day and Tartan Day Here's some kilts and bagpipes for you. And if you have any caramel leftover from yesterday's Caramel Day celebration, it's also Caramel Popcorn Day. Here's a recipe
for making your own caramel popcorn using packaged caramels. This
recipe contains peanuts so it's like Cracker Jack…but you can also just
leave them out if you don't like, or can't eat, peanuts. Or you can be
like me and just buy some Cracker Jack and get candy coated popcorn,
peanuts and a prize!
Next Thursday - Thomas Jefferson Day Probably one of the most, if not THE most, intelligent presidents we've ever had. When President John F. Kennedy welcomed forty-nine Nobel Prize winners
to the White House in 1962 he said, “I think this is the most
extraordinary collection of talent and of human knowledge that has ever
been gathered together at the White House—with the possible exception of
when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.” And it's also Scrabble Day
Just what the heck is a SOC Super Saturday? I'm glad you asked. SOC stands for SendOutCards and Super Saturday is held on the 2nd Saturday of every month. It's an expanded version of our weekly opportunity and training sessions.
Starting at 10:00, there will be an overview of the SendOutCards app as well as an introduction to the business opportunity. After that will be a drawing for the following prizes:
The prizes are a wine glass holder that sits on your wine bottle, a coffee mug, the book "Beach Money" by Jordan Adler, a 4 pack of brownies and a $5 Starbucks card. The Payday candy bars are not one of the prizes...they're part of the team recognition during the 2nd hour. All of the prizes are available through SendOutCards.
Starting at 11:00 we will have customer and distributor training, showing more of how to use the app and website, as well as how to grow your SendOutCards business. Wrapping up the event will be team recognition.
If you don't know much about SendOutCards, come at 10:00 for an overview and stay for the training if you want. If you're already a customer or distributor, come by at 11:00 for some training.
Everyone who comes to the event will get a ticket for the drawing. And you will receive an additional ticket for each guest that you have at the event.
Most people, me included, work when they're awake, so the only time they can live the life of their dreams is when they're actually dreaming.
You may get a small taste of it on the weekend when you don't have chores to do and you're not too tired from your long work week. Or maybe during your 2 weeks of vacation, if you can afford to get away. But for the most part, the only time we can live the life we want is when we're asleep!
But what if we could reverse the two and make money when we're asleep and live the life we want when we're awake? Not only is it possible, but lots of people are already doing it! One of my favorite people who is living the life that she wants is Darla DiGrandi. Check her out on Facebook and see what I mean! Check out this 3 minute video of her talking about how you need a business that provides leveraged residual income in order to have true time freedom.
But what is leveraged residual income?
There are 2 main types of income...linear and non-linear, of which residual is a type of non-linear income. Linear income is working from 9 to 5 and being paid for working 9 to 5. Except for vacations, if you don't work you don't get paid. You do this Monday through Friday for 40 years and then you retire, if you're lucky, and collect a pension and/or Social Security.
Residual income is when you get paid for doing something once, like writing a book, or a song, or a movie. Or performing in a song or movie. Elvis Presley makes more money now than when he was alive because his records are still selling and his movies are still being shown on TV!
But what about the leveraged part? That's where number 2 in Darla's video comes in. You want other people working for you or with you providing you with residual income. And one of the best ways to do that is with a network marketing business, where others on your team earn residual income and you earn a small slice of their income. Which isn't any different than a broker for an insurance agency. Each agent earns residual income...once they sign you up for a policy, it automatically renews every year unless you cancel it. And the broker makes a percentage of each policy...year after year. With network marketing, you introduce someone to the business and help them get started, and you earn from them forever.
What company does Darla recommend? The same one I'm in...SendOutCards.
Hopefully, I can get Darla to come and speak at one of our upcoming Super Saturday events! Check out tomorrow's blog post for more about this month's Super Saturday coming up this weekend!
If you read the biographies of history’s greatest men, you’ll find that most were early risers. They used each morning to write, read, ponder, and plan for their day.
But why should you wake up early?
Benefits of Waking Up Early
Increased productivity.
Increased creativity.
Decreased stress.
Increased fitness.
OK, but how do we go about waking up early?
How to Become an Early Riser
Go to bed earlier.
Start off small.
Keep your alarm clock far away from your bed. (And why you shouldn't use your smart phone as an alarm clock)
Have a routine established.
Invigorate with cold water.
Make a good breakfast.
Be sure to check out the article for more information on how and why to be an early riser.
AoM Challenge: For the next month, try waking up an hour earlier than you usually do. I’d love to hear what you’re doing with your extra time in the morning, so shoot me an email and give me a report.
